AGN EUROPE held several meetings during 2010 |
During 2010 the European Region of AGN International Ltd has held a series of very successful meetings, both technical and language orientated.
| In April the European Taxation Task Force organised a VAT seminar at the Dixon Wilson offices in London, UK. The subject matter of the seminar was the “EU wide changes to VAT legislation implemented on January 1, 2010”. It was attended by 20 delegates from 10 different countries. It gave the attendees the opportunity to discuss the different interpretations of the “New Rules” within each country represented. |

| The Annual AGN European Congress was held in Krakow, Poland from June 10 – 12, 2010 and was attended by 94 companions and delegates, representing 24 countries. There were many topics presented including the Political and Economic Status of Poland given by Professor Grzegorz Kolodko (Former Deputy Premier and Finance Minister of Poland), an update on EGIAN and the European Institutions in Brussels given by Andrew Brown (Chairman of EGIAN), a presentation on EU work and how it can be obtained by Daniel Guéguen (CLAN Public Affairs). A session about “TLC” (Think Like Client) on how to service current clients and keep them and how to obtain new clients. One of the highlights of this congress was a visit to the Jagiellonian University (one of the oldest universities in Europe) with a welcome speech from the Rector and the opportunity for a private tour of the Collegium Maius which now serves as the museum of the Unviersity. |

| After a very successful IFRS Seminar held in Prague in 2009, another was organised for 2010, again in Prague. The seminar was organised by the AGN Europe office and the AGN member firm based in Prague, Schaffer & Partner s.r.o. It was attended by 21 professionals from 15 different countries and the topics covered were “An overview of the IASB”, “Practical application of the IFRS for SMEs”, “News on IFRS”, “Business Combination” and “Deferred Tax”. There was very positive feedback from the delegates and because of this another seminar on IFRS will be organised for 2011. |

There were three common language/jurisdiction meetings held this year:
The Scandinavian meeting was held in Gothenburg, Sweden and was organised by Frejs Revisionsbyrå AB. There were 8 attendees from 4 AGN members firms within the Scandinavian region. This was the first meeting of this group and gave each firm the opportunity to do a presentation and to discuss the best way they can do business together and make use of the commonality of their countries. It was proposed to organise a meeting for Scandinavian Tax partners and a seminar for accountants “New in Charge” (those new to a managerial position) and topics suggested were “How to be a good leader”, “How to give creative feedback” and “How to best communicate and inspire”, amongst others. This group will meet again in 2011.

| The German Speaker’s Meeting was organised by SH+C Group (one of the member firms in the European Region of AGN International Ltd) from November 18 – 20, 2010 in Regensburg, Germany. This was attended by 50 tax and audit experts from 19 AGN member firms from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Liechtenstein, Czech Republic, Slovakia, the Netherlands and Hong Kong. In the field of taxation the focus was on taxation of expatriates, taxation of the profit of foreign corporations and a discussion regarding VAT in the participating countries. In the field of audit the focus was on the discussion of the EU green paper of Auditing and the documentation requirements which are expected in an inspection from the oversight boards. Presentations were also given by participating members on specific tax rules for expatriates in the Netherlands, Czech Republic, Germany, Austria and Switzerland, especially the double tax treaties and the numerous social security treaties within the European Union and the interpretation of each country were discussed. The 2011 meeting for German Speaker’s will take place in Vaduz, Liechtenstein. |

Also in November a small group of French Speaking firms met in Paris for a days meeting on November 19. There were 5 attendees representing 5 different AGN member firms and 2 countries. Each firm did a presentation about their operations and other topics discussed were “Taxation in Switzerland and France”, “The Green Paper” and “Systems of remuneration of partners and senior manager”. They also took the opportunity to discuss AGN’s coverage within Europe.
Thougout the year meetings of the regional operational committees Business Development, Communications and IT, Education,
Membership Development and Taxation were held, as well as two meetings of the Regional Board of Directors.
